Marengo Relay for Life raises more than $71,000

Marengo County Relay for Life raised just over $71,000 for the American Cancer Society to use in research, education and treatment.
The annual fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society came to an end on Friday at River Field in Demopolis.
Eighteen teams helped to raise the money through bake sales, dog shows and other events. Those teams were Alabama Power’s Greene County Steam Plant, Amedisys Home Health Services, Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, Christian Chapel Baptist Church, Demopolis Public Library, Dana – Suttles Truck Leasing, Deep South Network, Foster Farms, Quest Club of Linden, Regions Bank, Robertson Banking Company, Rock Tenn Company’s Demopolis Mill, Sweet Water State Bank, Wal-Mart Super Center, Demopolis High School DECA Club, DHS Anchor and Key clubs, U.S. Jones Elementary School and the John Essex High School Beta Club.
One thousand luminaries were sold to help light the track used by the Relay for Life participants.
