Monday update: AHSAA play to resume tomorrow

Alabama High School Athletic Association activities will resume Tuesday, following the tentative schedule outlined last week when the postponement of all events was made, Executive Director Steve Savarese announced Monday morning in a press release.
With the three Huntsville area school systems re-opening today, members of AHSAA Medical Advisory Board and Central Board of Control all agreed it would be safe to resume activities.
Last Thursday the AHSAA, on the advice of the same two boards, postponed all of its events after the three school systems closed upon finding two probable swine flu cases in a Madison City elementary school.
“I want to thank our member schools, the Medical Advisory Board, our Central Board leadership, the superintendents of the Huntsville area school systems as well as the State Board of Education and State Department of Health for helping us cope with this challenging situation,” Savarese said in a release.
“While we apologize for the disruption of our original playoff schedule, we made the safe decision for the children of this state and also insured that students at all our member schools would have the opportunity to participate in our post-season athletic events.”
Baseball, softball, golf and soccer playoffs resume Tuesday while the state track & field championship—all classes—is reset for May 7-9 at Gulf Shores. All other AHSAA playoff events follow their original schedule.
