The final pair of nominees for the 2009 Athlete of the Year award come from Marengo High School.

One is a dichotomous junior who is easygoing and fun-loving on the field and hard-charging and physical on it.

The other is an unflappable three-year starter at quarterback who guided his Panthers to the playoffs in 2008 and has bigger goals in 2009.

The tandem represents the last set of nominees to come from each high school in Marengo County. The Times will announce the winner of the 2009 Athlete of the Year award in its May 23 edition.
