Marvin’s Building Materials and Home Centers opened at its new location on Friday, allowing customers an early glimpse into its larger store.
“We wanted to open up the store a day earlier so we could get any kinks out,” said store manager Stacy Carroll.
Carroll said the store would have specials each Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.
She added that although the store had what she calls a “soft” opening on Friday, it would have a grand opening on June 19-20.
Customers were walking around the store Friday morning, checking out the inventory and comparing prices.
“We thought we’d come see what the prices were going to be,” said Wayne Washburn, of Greensboro. “We thought we’d shop around a little bit.”
“It’s a nice store,” said Tracy Adams of Gallion.
Marvin’s will feature an expanded nursery and lumber yard, and will anchor the renovated Demopolis Gateway Plaza, bought by Quality Properties LLC, owned by Jeff Beck.
Most of the plaza got a new roof, and the plaza received a refreshed faade. Main Moon Restaurant will move into the plaza soon, and is in the process of moving and tearing down its former location in the parking lot of the plaza. The Market Place has also renewed its lease in the plaza and got a new ceiling and floor among other renovations.
Beck said he was hoping to get Dollar General to return to the plaza, and would like to have a 24-hour restaurant.
