Ouida Lou Houston Avery, age 85, of Hartford passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009, in Fairhope.

She was born on Sept. 21, 1923, in Hartford.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Hartford First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Hartford Community Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack William Avery; a brother, G.C. Houston; a sister, Mary Ann Houston Wesley; a granddaughter, Sonya Lee Avery; her father, Grover Cleveland Houston; and her mother, Mary Belle Hughes Houston.

She is survived by her son, Jack Houston (Cindy) Avery of Dothan; her daughter, Ann Avery Pearson of Fairhope; three grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Edwards of Ashford, Allison (Ryan) Walta of Birmingham and Brad (Kate) Pearson of Mobile; a brother-in-law, Gene Wesley of Seagrove Beach, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Sloan of Baton Rouge, La.; and four nephews, Avery Sloan of Baton Rouge, La., Col. David Wesley of San Antonio, Texas, Jody Wesley of Freeport, Fla., and Sam Wesley of Seagrove Beach, Fla.
