With the first day of the 2009-10 school year just less than three weeks away, Westside Elementary School has issued supply lists for its students.

To welcome its students, Westside is hosting open houses for each of its grades. The open house for kindergarten will be on Friday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. For the first-graders and their families, open house will be on Monday, Aug. 10, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., while the second-graders’ open house will be on Monday, Aug. 10, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Open house participants are asked not to park in the main parking area, but to park in the gravel parking lot next to the ball fields or along the street. All open houses will begin in the WES cafeteria.

For Westside Elementary School students, here is a grade-by-grade list of the supplies:

Kindergarten: six 8-count boxes of Crayola crayons, four bottles of Elmer’s white school glue (no blue gel or washable glue), one pair of Fiskars blunt scissors, one large package of regular-size pencils, one small supply box or bag, one Germ-X, one liquid soap, two boxes of Kleenex, one package of assorted construction paper, two first-grade ruled writing tables and one journal-composition notebook (not spiraled).

Girls are asked to bring one package of colored copy paper, while boys are asked to bring one package of white copy paper. The school would appreciate donations of paper towels, Clorox wipes, gallon-sized Ziploc bags or quart-sized Ziploc bags.

Kindergarteners will have an early pick-up time during the first week of school, Aug. 11-14, at 12:30 p.m.

First grade: two boxes of 24-count crayons, one pair of Fiskars blunt scissors, one package of No. 2 pencils, two bottles of Elmer’s school glue (no blue gel), two primary writing tablets, one package of assorted construction paper, one package of colored copy paper, two plastic folders with brads and pockets, one supply box or pouch, one container of all-purpose wipes, one bottle of liquid soap and one box of Kleenex tissue.

The school would appreciate the donation of one package of white copy paper, one package of white cardstock, dry-erase markers, washable markers, Lysol or 409 spray, paper towels or gallon-sized Ziploc bags.

Second grade: one package of construction paper, two boxes of 24-count crayons, three plastic folders (no paper) in red, blue or green colors, one pair of student scissors, two packages of pencils, one package of erasers, one zippered supply pouch (no boxes), two boxes of Kleenex, two bottles of Germ-X, two packages of colored paper, two containers of Clorox wipes, two packages of white copying paper and two bottles of Elmer’s glue (no blue gel).

Girls are asked to bring one box of quart-sized Ziploc bags, while boys are asked to bring one box of Ziploc sandwich bags.

No rolling book bags or plastic supply boxes will be allowed.

The school would appreciate a donation of paper towels, Lysol or 409 spray, one package of white cardstock, dry-erase markers or washable markers.
