You can find someplace to fit in

A lot of times, it takes a few helping hands to bring something special and worthwhile to the community. There are many areas where you can help make a difference.
Many times, schools rely on volunteers to help with programs and other things associated with the schools. The best way to help is through the Demopolis City Schools Foundation or the Parent-Teacher Association. Contact either the DCSF at 289-2226 or any school to see how you can help.
The Christmas on the River plans are also starting to come together in preparation for our annual Yuletide festival. Part of the fascination of our COTR fest is that it all happens through the help of volunteers. If you would like to take part, call the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce at 289-0270.
Other artistic programs and performances are about to take place here in Demopolis. Again, this is something that anyone can take part in. If you would be interested in working with the Canebrake Players, Two Rivers Arts Council or Demopolis Singers, those organizations would welcome you. The best place to start would be to contact Carolyn Cowling, the chair of the Two Rivers Arts Council, at 289-9674.
The Demopolis Public Library will also begin presenting programs for adults and students alike. To help the public library, contact them at 289-1595.
Another interesting local organization is the Marengo County Historical Society, which is behind the movement to bring the Marengo County History and Archive Museum to life. It also sponsors several programs and speakers who come to our town to share in the richness of our history. If you are interested in being a part of the Historical Society, call Bluff Hall at 289-9644.
There are many, many ways to take part in almost any aspect of our city and our area. If you would like to be involved, just ask someone. Your help would be appreciated.
