Demopolis police officer Bobby Howerton’s wife, Rena, and his 5-month-old son, Bobby Marx, were involved in a single-vehicle accident on Marengo County Road 5 on Tuesday.
Rena Howerton fractured five vertebrae, and their son suffered minor skull fractures in the accident. Both were taken to a hospital in Birmingham. Their son has since returned home, and Rena is expected to return home within a week.
“They have (Rena) in a back brace now,” Bobby Howerton said on Friday. “They’ve begun physical therapy and got her up and walking around. She had no injuries to her back besides the vertebrae.”
Original tests on his son indicated a fractured skull, but later images revealed no problems.
“Our son has been home with me for two days now,” Off. Howerton said. “ He’s doing much better now.”
DPD chief Tommie Reese said the police department was keeping Howerton and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
