Chilton County commission chairman Tim Mims was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor Friday night during Maplesville High School’s football game at Linden.
According to the Marengo County Sheriff’s Department, Mims was charged with assault (third degree).
“Yes, I was arrested Friday night at the Maplesville-Linden football game for assault III,” Mims said, “and there is a lot more to this than most people know. I was simply doing what I have always done, and that is stand up for what is right.”
Mims said he was injured during the arrest and is currently undergoing test to determine the extent of the injuries.
He said he met with his attorney, Bill Speaks of Clanton, and they are determining what steps to take next.
“The people from Maplesville who were at the game saw what happened,” Mims said. “I wasn’t going to be intimidated by anyone.”
“I hope the people of Chilton County will watch this story as it unfolds,” he added.
According to the Linden Police Department, David Mahan of Maplesville was also arrested at the Maplesville-Linden game. Mahan was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
