The Demopolis Civic Center hosted a college fair on Tuesday, bringing in students from all around Marengo County.
Representatives from every college and university in the state as well as the armed forces provided information to students considering their plans for life after graduation.
“This is the second year that I’ve brought our students to the college fair here,” said Sweet Water High School counselor Sandra Williams. “It’s a great opportunity for them because the kids in our area don’t have as much exposure to this. We brought juniors and seniors.”
It was also a great opportunity for state colleges and universities to recruit a large group of students at one time.
“I enjoy coming and talking to the students and letting them know what their options are,” said admissions counselor Christina Blackmon of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. “A lot of them don’t know what’s available to them, like internships and things like that. I’m just happy to be here and talk to the students, because they all seem really excited about going to college. I just want to encourage them and make sure they know what their options are.
“We had a great turnout, and it’s a lot of students that we may not have been able to reach originally. I think it’s a great opportunity for them to come out and talk to us and find out what we have to offer.”
