DCSF launches turkey sale

Again this year, the Demopolis City Schools Foundation is holding a sale of smoked turkey breasts.
Tickets at $20 each are available from any Foundation board member or by contacting the Foundation at (334) 289-2226. The deadline for purchase is Oct. 29.
The annual fund-raiser has long been a staple in the organization’s efforts and is the first one of this year.
The pick-up date for the turkeys is Saturday, Nov. 14, in the parking lot of the Demopolis High School baseball field.
Foster Farms donated the turkeys.
“I just can’t begin to tell you how much that donation, the donation of the turkeys, will mean to the Foundation,” director Jan McDonald said. “ That will save us more than $1,500 in expenses, which means we’ll be able to keep that much more of what we actaully raise.”
In previous years, the Foundation has purchased the breasts and the monies raised offset those expenses.
In another change this year, the turkeys will be prepared by Alice Walker of Livingston and fully frozen for use during Thanksgiving or other holiday events.
The Foundation uses the income from this and other fund-raisers to continue to foster and promote excellence in the Demopolis public school system.
Since its beginning in 1993, the Foundation has awarded more than $756,000 in grants to teachers, librarians and counselors to provide the resources needed to effectively influence the success of all students in Demopolis public schools.
