September 11th, better known as 9/11, will always be a day that we will never forget. This was a day when so many people lost their lives and many risked theirs to help the ones in need.
At Marengo Academy, with 9/11 following on a Friday, the cheerleaders held a pep rally in honor of our local heroes. The Linden firefighters, Linden police officers, VFW members, Marengo County sheriff’s officers and Marengo Rescue Squad were asked to join the Longhorns for the pep rally.
Anna Edmonds, SGA president, addressed all the fans and the Local Heroes that were present. Coach Robby James then came to the floor and spoke a few words and then asked for all of the Honorees present to please come to center court where they received a standing ovation for all of their service to us and everyone around.
After they were seated, Mayor Mitzi Gates, an alumnus of Marengo Academy, sang “God Bless The U.S.A” as the elementary students waved their American Flags.
Right before the end of the pep rally, the K-4 through 2nd grade came to center court, with flags in hand, and sung “God Bless America”.
What a way for the pep rally to end with the little ones serenading our Local Heroes with a song.
