Lucille Dunn of Demopolis was named the Marengo County RSVP Volunteer of the Year at the annual Awards and Recognition Dinner for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program held Thursday.
Other nominees for the honor from Marengo County included Mary Gaddy and last year’s winner, Tommy Vice.
Dunn has been a member of RSVP for five years.
“I work with anything and everything that someone needs me to do,” she said.
Dunn said she enjoys calling people who are sick to check on them and helping at the West Alabama Nutrition Center on East Washington Street.
RSVP named Volunteers of the Year from each of the five counties it covers. It also covers Dallas County, but it held its own awards dinner, since it was so far from the RSVP regional office in Thomasville.
Lavon Bonner was named the Volunteer of the Year from Choctaw County, while Lillian Hodge and Berniece McIlwain were the county’s other nominees.
Charlie Dixon was named Volunteer of the Year from Clarke County, while Elinor Ott and Blanche Starks were the county’s other nominees.
Hester Blankenship was Washington County’s Volunteer of the Year, while Vivian Dickey and Stella Howard were the other nominees.
Jean Pope was the Volunteer of the Year from Wilcox County, while Voncile Long and Reba Pearson were the county’s other nominees.
Several RSVP members earned pins for their hours of service this year.
RSVP works as a liaison between senior volunteers and community entities who need volunteers.
