The Ron Sparks for Governor campaign will make a stop in Demopolis Tuesday with a catfish supper fundraiser at the Civic Center beginning at 6 p.m.
Thed Spree, a Boligee catfish farmer, is spearheading the local fundraising effort.
“I may have high hopes, but I’m wanting 400 to 500 people,” he said. “I’m trying to raise that man $50,000.”
Ron Sparks, who is now in his second term as Ala-bama’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, is seeking the Dem-ocratic nomination for governor.
Spree cited Sparks’ familiarity with the plight of the Alabama farmer as one of the key reasons he has taken on this fundraising effort.
“I’m in the catfish business and Ron Sparks has done a lot for the Alabama farmers, especially the catfish farmers,” Spree said. “We’re regulated. We’re inspected. We’ve got standards that we have to adhere to. You don’t find that overseas and you don’t find that in the product they’re sending over here.”
Tickets are $100 each and are available by calling Spree at 205-372-7260. Tickets, which include a catfish dinner, will also be available at the event, which will kickoff with a social hour at 6 p.m.
