Calvin Crawford

Calvin Inge Crawford, age 83, of Greensboro passed away on Oct. 24, 2009, at Hospice of West Alabama.
He was born in Hale County on Nov. 10, 1925. He served in World War II in the 2nd Division, and was an agent for Life of Georgia for 40 years. He was the only agent in Alabama to receive the Gold Top Walking Cane due to his success in selling insurance. He was a founding member of Southern Academy and served on its board of trustees for many years. He was a member of Post 65 of the American Legion for more than 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bonetta Hoggle Crawford; a sister, Eva Hoggle; and four brothers, William, Hartford and Jeff Crawford and Jason Thigpen.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Lee (Hugh) Burt; a son, Russell Inge (Cathy) Crawford; four grandchildren, James Bradley (Krista) Johnson, Cal Crawford Johnson, Christopher Inge and Catherine Lee Crawford; and one great-granddaughter, Madilyn Grace Johnson.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. at Ramey Chapel Methodist Church with pastor Patricia Bruner and the Rev. Arthur Thomas officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis directed the services.
Pallbearers were Roger Crawford, Vernon Crawford, Bob Crawford, Walter Crawford, Bobby Collins and Wayne Hoggle.
