The Bigbee Humane Society will host two local fundraisers in their latest push to help establish a Demopolis Animal Shelter.
Donna W. Barham, Office Automation Assistant for the Demopolis Site Office, said the organization is now accepting memberships and have started our fundraising events.
“We have just started selling tickets for our Christmas Raffle with donations from local restaurants and merchants,” she said. “Tickets are being sold by members of the Demopolis High School’s Future Teachers of America, Shelter Board Members and a booth will be set up in front of Culpepper Electric on the day of Christmas on the River to sell tickets, hand out educational information along with an Adopt-A-Thon.”
The organization will also have a fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at Fleming Photography.
“For a $5 donation you can bring family and/or pets for two 4” x 5” Christmas Prints,” she said. “If you would like more, Fleming’s will take orders for various packages and Christmas Cards.”
Bigbee Animal Shelter will shadow the Demopolis Animal Shelter until the organization has enough support and funds to move out on its own.
“Our plans for the future include land and a building for our own organization, however, at this time we hope to help make the Demopolis Shelter better,” Barham said. “Some of our plans now include improving the conditions and making more room for animals, holding Adopt-A-Thons, working with Rescue Groups and getting on the Internet system to get animals adopted, educational programs with area schools… and we would like to do a low cost spay/neuter clinic.”
Board Members for the New Year are Lucille Carpenter, Gary and Dorothy McGailliard, Donna Barham, Rebecca Baker, Cindy McDonald, Rice Gray. Dr. Ted Vaughn and Brandon McCrory are advisors.
