A long-standing Christmas On The River tradition is the annual Fair In the Square, hosted by the Civitan Club in downtown Demopolis.
Pat Brady, Civitan treasurer and Administrative Assistant with the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce, said this year the event has been slightly modified as it attempts to return to a traditional layout.
“At the park, we’re going to host the handmade and handcrafted vendors,” she said. “This had been the way it’s been done it in the past and we wanted to get back to that.”
Retail and food vendors will be set up along and around Washington Street and Main Avenue.
“The retail section will be from Washington Street and Main Avenue toward Anderson Plumbing, on both sides of the street,” she said. “And there will be additional retail spaces on Main Avenue from Washington Street down to the alley behind Napoleon’s Restaurant.”
Brady said the club has rented out all 211 vendor spaces, noting that several vendors have chosen to take up more than one space.
“In just a quick estimate, I would expect about 175 different vendors to be there, taking up all 211 spaces,” she said. “We’re excited that we’ve ran out of space and we expect this year’s Fair in the Square to be great.”
Fair in the Square kicks off Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m.
