James rushes into Super 6 record books, Tigers roll to 5A title

TUSCALOOSA – Damarcus James set a Class 5A Super 6 record with 293 rushing yards, leading Demopolis to a 27-14 win against Russellville in the AHSAA Class 5A final on Thursday night.

James had 201 yards in the first half and ended up with the second-best rushing total in Super 6 history.

Senior safety Anthony Hardy’s 74-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter clinched the victory for Demopolis (12-3), which last won the state title in 2004.

Russellville junior running back Brent Calloway led the Golden Tigers (12-3) with 142 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.
