The school board on Monday approved naming the Demopolis High School tennis courts after former Demopolis superintendent Dr. W. Wesley Hill and his wife, former Demopolis schools employee Barbara Hill.
“Dr. Hill and Barbara worked as a team for the 28 years that Dr. Hill served as superintendent,” said school board chair Gary Holemon. “He really loved tennis, and this was a way to honor that and to honor the years of service that he put into the school system.
“You could say that the groundwork for a lot of things that have happened in recent years could be attributed to Dr. Hill: the Blue Ribbon award, the stadium, the track. All of those things were ideas that he had or that others had and he promoted. He was instrumental in bringing the Fabulous Fours program here. He made a tremendous difference with a lot of kids.”
