The first baby of the new year and of the “teens” decade to be born in Demopolis was Jayden Dequan Lane, born on Monday, Jan. 4, at 1:38 p.m. at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.
The son of Treniece Davis and Manuel Lane of Uniontown, the baby weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 18-1/2 inches long. He was the first child for the couple, and has a stepsister, Frankira White, 3, and a stepbrother, Jaylen Lane, 2.
“It’s exciting!” said the baby’s father, Manuel Lane. “I thought it was going to be the first baby of the new year, period.”
“He’s the heaviest baby I ever toted,” said the baby’s mother, Treniece Davis. “He was 7 pounds, and I was here every two or three days at the hospital because he was so heavy.”
The baby is the grandson of Bernice Lane of Uniontown and the late Manuel Lane and Johnny L. Davis and Emma Dean Davis of Faunsdale.
As the first child born in the new year, the Health Start department of the hospital provided several gifts that will help the parents during the baby’s first year, including diapers, toys and clothes.
