Bond was doubled last week for a man who allegedly shot his wife to death on the steps of Livingston High School on Jan. 20.

Telvin Labenji Gray, 32, was charged Jan. 21 with the murder of his estranged wife, Starrick Morgan-Gray, 32.

Officials claim Starrick Morgan-Gray was shot four times by her estranged husband just before school dismissed for the day.

She was a special education teacher who taught at the school for the past three years and had been employed with the Sumter County School System for the past seven years. She was living in Fosters at the time of her death.

Telvin Gray, of Forkland, was being held in the Sumter County Detention Center in Livingston under a $75,000 bond before Friday’s bond hearing raised it to $150,000.

Sumter County assistant district attorney Nathan Watkins Jr. said as soon as he heard that Gray’s bond “was only $75,000,” he immediately filed a motion in Sumter County Circuit Court to raise the bond for the accused killer.

District Court Judge Tammy Montgomery, during her term of district court on Friday, agreed and raised Gray’s bond to $150,000. Montgomery set the bond after hearing from Watkins and Gray’s newly appointed attorney, Sean FitzGerald of Livingston.

FitzGerald was appointed the day before the bond hearing, Thursday, Jan. 28, in a Sumter County District Court hearing.

Watkins, during the hearing on Friday, gave Montgomery several reasons to raise the bond and also revealed that Morgan-Gray “was shot four times there at the school.”

Watkins said Telvin Gray was charged with murder and “faced a possible sentence of life in prison at this point.”

Watkins said that the charges “may be upgraded to capital murder in the future.” If the charges were upgraded, Telvin Gray could face a possible death penalty.

Watkins continued, “It has not been upgraded to a capital offense at this time, and I don’t know if it will be.”

A trial date has not yet been set.
