SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The San Antonio Spurs traded center Theo Ratliff to the Charlotte Bobcats Thursday evening in exchange for a protected second-round pick in the 2016 draft.
Ratliff, 36, is in the final year of his contract, which will allow the Bobcats to clear salary cap space for the much-anticipated upcoming offseason and the bidding war that is likely to ensue for many of the names to hit market.
The 6-foot-10 Ratliff has averaged 1.6 points and 1.9 rebounds in 21 games for the Spurs this season.
The move reunites Ratliff with Larry Brown, who is the Bobcats’ head coach. Brown previously coached Ratliff during a stint with the 76ers.
