Local Guard members activated

Army Spec. Arguinda A. Ellis, Army National Guard Pfc. Floyd J. Charleston and Army Sgt. Jason R. Johnson have each been mobilized and activated at Fort Dix, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of either Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom. The soldiers are a member of the 2101st Transportation Company, based in Demopolis.

The soldiers are normally activated from Army Reserve or Army National Guard units from throughout the U.S. They go through a series of in-processing procedures and training classes that prepare them for skills and situations they may face in their deployed environment.

Ellis is a motor transport operator and has served in the military for four years. She is the daughter of Bettye L. Ellis and stepdaughter of Walter Wolf of Beal Street in Linden, and is a 2006 graduate of Linden High School.

Charleston is a motor transport operator and has served in the military for one year. He is the son of the Rev. Edmond Charleston Sr. of Johnson Drive in Gallion and Susie L. Henton of County Road 51 in Faunsdale. His wife, Katrina, is the daughter of Eddie L. Chambers of Marion. He is a 2004 graduate of Linden High School.

Johnson is a motor transport operator and has served in the military for 16 years. He is the son of Seretga Ray and Stepson of Billy Ray of Bridget Avenue in Demopolis. His wife, Anne, is the daughter of James Barnes and Arlene Barnes, both of Gallion. He is a 1998 graduate of Demopolis High School.
