The New Morning Star Baptist Church’s community outreach ministry and Sisters Strengthen Sisters held a Jesus Christ Awareness Walk on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Old School and going through downtown Demopolis to the city landing.

At the landing, the group had a continental breakfast of water, juice, coffee and pastries and had a fellowship on the river field.

The theme of the walk was “Exercise your faith; walk with Jesus, citing James 2:14-26, which says that faith without works is dead.

A number of people turned out or the walk, with two carrying wooden crosses. The walkers were led by two young people carrying a banner that read, “Jesus Christ Awareness Walk.”

Throughout the event, walkers sang, prayed and waved flags. Funds raised by the awareness walk benefited future community outreach ministry events.
