Local students honored at UWA awards day

The University of West Alabama recently recognized outstanding students for their academic achievements and leadership roles at the institution’s annual Honors Day. Honorees and their guests were treated to a luncheon at the Bell Conference Center before the Honors Day Convocation in Bibb Graves Auditorium.
Kristen Barton of Demopolis was inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon honor society. The sophomore mathematics education major is the daughter of Heather and Michael Barton and Sam and Jimmy Gross.
Sarah Cole of Demopolis was inducted into Alpha Chi and Cardinal Key societies. The senior English major is the daughter of Margaret and Cleveland Cole.
Stephen Cupit of Demopolis, a senior biology major, was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi honor society.
Sydney Broadaway of Linden was inducted into Alpha Chi, Cardinal Key and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. The junior English major is the daughter of Lori Ingram.
Elizabeth Brooker of Demopolis was recognized for her inclusion in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The senior English education major is the daughter of Chrissy and Johnny Brooker.
Sherilyn J. Garner of Demopolis was inducted into Beta Beta Beta honor society. The junior biology major is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Garner and Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Sewell.
Kelly Hannah of Demopolis was inducted into Alpha Epsilon Delta honor society. The sophomore pre-veterinarian medicine major is the daughter of Betty Hannah and the late Robert Hannah.
Mytisha J. Hinton of Linden was inducted into Alpha Chi, Cardinal Key, Delta Mu Delta and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. The junior computer information systems major is the daughter of Teneshia Hinton and Zack Fluker.
Rebecca Murray of Demopolis was recognized for her inclusion in the Honors Program. The freshman mathematics and computer information systems major is the daughter of Debi and Chris Murray.
Stephanie Murray of Demopolis received the Betty Jean Tucker Creative Writing Award from the Department of Languages and Literature. She was inducted into Alpha Chi, Blue Key, Cardinal Key, Phi Kappa Phi, and Psi Chi honor societies and recognized for her inclusion in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The junior English and psychology major is the daughter of Debi and Chris Murray.
Larry Joseph Seale of Demopolis was inducted into Alpha Chi, Blue Key and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies and recognized for his inclusion in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The junior English major is the son of Nancy and Larry Seale.
Terry Taylor of Demopolis was inducted into Beta Beta Beta honor society and recognized for inclusion in the Honors Program. The sophomore biology major is the son of Terrie Taylor and Randal Taylor.
Lara Tucker of Demopolis was named the University Scholar in the sociology/social work major. This annual award recognizes an outstanding scholar chosen by the departmental faculty based on academic performance and participation in related extracurricular activities. The senior is the daughter of Mary and Ken Tucker.
Lindsey Wilbanks of Coatopa was inducted into Blue Key, Cardinal Key, Delta Mu Delta and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. The junior business administration major is the daughter of Lisa and Lani Kaeo.
Julie Wright of Linden was named the University Scholar in the special education major. This annual award recognizes an outstanding scholar chosen by the departmental faculty based on academic performance and participation in related extracurricular activities. The recent graduate is the daughter of JoAnn and Alton Anderson.
