Three students from Demopolis Middle School placed at the state Future Business Leaders of America competition on April 15-16 in Birmingham.
Rachel England, Morgan Godwin and Tyler Merriweather all took placed in each of their competitions.
“We brought 13 students, and three placed,” said FBLA adviser Connie Davis. “We were very happy!”
England did a Powerpoint project for Earth Day (April 22) dealing with a rain forest, while Godwin placed with her project in desktop publishing, and Merriweather created a spread sheet in Excel, inputting the data and putting the formula sheet in it.
“We actually competed against ourselves, or we would have had more students place,” Davis said. “That was the problem. Next year, we’re going to diversify and cover more areas. We did have a couple of students compete in keyboard applications — that’s where they format documents — but they didn’t place.”
The Demopolis Middle School FBLA sponsors a child from Harriet’s House every Christmas as well as taking tours of local businesses to learn how they operate.
The Future Business Leaders of America works in conjunction with the school’s business classes and computer classes to help create business leadership in the DMS students.
