DPD looking into Main Avenue car thefts

Demopolis police chief Tommie Reese reported that a number of cars on Main Avenue from Jackson Street to the city landing have been broken into recently, with several reports coming in on Tuesday night.
“The car doors were left unlocked,” he said. “If anyone has seen anyone in the area that night who was suspicious or any vehicles driving around that looked suspicious, they need to call the Demopolis Police Department at 289-3073.
“We want to remind everybody that just because their car is at their residence, that doesn’t mean that it is secure. People need to lock their car doors when they leave their vehicles at home, when they are out or wherever they go. That way, at least, an alarm will go of if someone tries to break into their car. Or, if it’s locked, most criminals would not try to take the time to break into their car.”
Reese said DPD officers received four or five reports about car thefts on Main Avenue on Wednesday morning alone.
