The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 10th annual Freedom on the River celebration on Sunday, July 4, at the city landing.
The day will begin with the children’s patriotic parade at 7 p.m., going from the Demopolis Civic Center to the city landing, and then, the fireworks display provided by Pyro Productions, who has provided pyrotechnical displays for Freedom on the River and Christmas on the River several times.
“We have a gelato vendor coming from Birmingham,” said Chamber assistant Pat Brady. Gelato is an Italian variant of ice cream, made with a lower butterfat content than ice cream. “We have another vendor who has a great variety of food. He is one of our Christmas on the River vendors. He has verbally committed to be one of our vendors.
“We also have another gentleman coming from Eutaw who will have funnel cakes and cold drinks.”
The children’s patriotic parade features youngsters walking or riding in non-motorized vehicles, like a wagon, a bicycle, a skateboard or even roller skates. Each parade participant is decorated in patriotic red, white and blue designs.
“There will be a group of adults who will be registering parade participants at the Civic Center that day,” Brady said. “We’re planning on setting up around 5:30 p.m., and registration will begin at about 5:45 or 6:00. At about 6:45, we will line them up, and the parade will begin at 7 p.m.
“When the parade gets to the city landing, we will award prizes to different age groups: birth to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12. The winners will be given gift certificates.”
