The Leadership Marengo 2010-11 year has gotten under way, as the steering committee began its search of participants in Leadership Marengo Class XVII.
“We had our steering committee meeting on June 17, and we started making plans,” said Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce assistant Pat Brady. “We normally get a list of people who would make good candidates, and we will send out letters in July to various individuals, businesses, school departments, city governments and so on for possible candidates.”
Leadership Marengo is designed to help businesspeople throughout the county learn more about leadership, business, government, civic organizations and the county community.
“There are five different sessions,” Brady said. “We have our orientation, which is the kickoff where we introduce our class members as to what the program is all about. Then, our first class is on demographics and diversity, the second class is about economic development, our third class will be on education and the health care system in Marengo County.
“Our fourth class, we take a bus trip with the YOUth LEAD class members to Montgomery to see our state government at work. Our last class is on quality of life and tourism. Those people who successfully complete the course will graduate.”
Class XVII of Leadership Marengo will begin in September. For more information, contact the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce at (334) 289-0270.
