A Marengo County man was trapped in the cab of his wrecked pickup truck for more than three hours Sunday morning before the crash was spotted by a passerby. Mark Williams, of Myrtlewood, was driving a 1994 GMC pickup and apparently ran off CR 15 near the Choctaw-Sumter County line just above Mt. Mariah Baptist Church about 2 a.m. on July 18 and clipped some small trees. A passing motorist came upon the one-vehicle accident and reported it to the Choctaw E-911 Dispatch Center about 5:30 a.m. Choctaw Co. Rescue Squad volunteers used the Jaws of Life tool to free Williams, 48, from the vehicle. He was transported by Choctaw EMS Ambulance to Pennington Town Hall where a LifeCare helicopter ambulance out of Meridian picked up the injured man and airlifted him to an undisclosed hospital in Mississippi. Also responding to the scene were members of the Pennington Vol. Fire Department, Pennington Police Department, and Choctaw Co. Sheriff’s Department. Bystanders at the scene said that Williams is believed to have relatives in or around the Pennington area. State Trooper Chuck Gilliland is the investigating officer.
