From the Sidelines: Demopolis somehow does it again

Demopolis is lucky, blessed, really good or some combination of the three.
Personally, I think the truth of the matter lies somewhere in between. But whatever it is, the fact remains that Demopolis again put together a really good, very positive event over the weekend with the Babe Ruth 13U state tournament.
And while that is really becoming commonplace, this one is a little more impressive given that rain all but ruined Saturday’s scheduling.
Somehow, the crew at the Sports-Plex got the fields usable quickly and play resumed Sunday.
Granted, teams had to bear with playing more games than scheduled on Monday. However, the bracket got so far ahead of schedule that the final pool play games began more than an hour early.
The fields were in great shape. The crowds were solid. The concessions ran like clockwork. The PA volunteers and scoreboard operators stayed on top of things. And tournament director Art Evans remained in the background, which is exactly the way he wanted it to be.
It seems like Demopolis has really started to get this whole tournament-hosting thing down. Hopefully that is a trend that will continue as the city gets to host the Babe Ruth 14U Southeast Regional in August and the Cal Ripken 9U State Tournament next summer.
So kudos to Demopolis for again putting on a good show and get ready to get behind organizers as they look to make a good impression during upcoming events.
