UWA volleyball drops fourth straight

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team dropped its fourth straight contest Saturday, losing 3-0 to Lynn University to close out play at the 2010 Hyatt Place Shark Classic hosted by Nova Southeastern University. The Tigers fall to 2-6 on the season while Lynn improves to 6-1.

UWA committed a combined 29 errors in the match – including 11 attack miscues in the opening frame – as Lynn was victorious with set scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-21.

The Red and White’s best set of the day was by far the third in which the team collected 13 kills en route to hitting at a .375 clip but the Fighting Knights hit at a slightly better .382 to ensure the sweep.

Katelyn Beardshear led West Alabama with eight kills, and she registered a team-best .312 hitting percentage. Olivia Drew dished out 14 assists in the match while Alexis McHale finished the day just behind her with 13 helpers.

Defensively the Tigers were led by Cassie Montgomery who recorded 11 digs. Drew and Angela Sanders each picked up a pair of blocks.

The Tigers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 17 in Huntsville, Ala. against Henderson State at the UAH Invitational. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
