Consignment sale to benefit church

When financial times get tough, the tough get going.

Count the youth ministry at Demopolis First Presbyterian among the tough.

The church will host its first of what is anticipated to be an annual children’s consignment sale called Puddle Jumpers.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale go to the consigners. The remainder goes toward the children’s ministry.

“We saw how successful and popular these events are around this area, like in Selma and Tuscaloosa,” said Kami Basinger, one of the event’s organizers. “We had thought about doing one for a while. They’re incredible popular but one’s just never been done around here.”

All items on consignment are for children ages newborn to 10 and range from furniture, to clothes and toys.

For parents just getting geared up for parenthood, other items include maternity clothes, parenting and pregnancy books and nursing aids.

Halloween costumes, dance and gymnastics outfits will also be available.

The sale is scheduled for Oct. 15-16. Consigners can begin shopping Oct. 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Doors open to the general public Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Only cash will be accepted at the sale.
