The Demopolis Rookies (8U) earned their way into the championship of the West Alabama Youth Football Association last Saturday with a win over Holt.

The team travels to Central High School in Tuscaloosa Saturday to play the title game against Northport.

“It would mean a whole lot for them,” head coach David Coley said. “This would be the first (Demopolis) group to win a championship and it would be real fun for them.”

Demopolis enters the contest — which start at 9 a.m. — at 8-1, having suffered its only loss to Pickens.

“Out of the 21 years I have been around kids and coaching, I’ve never had a group this smart.”
