Long-time merchant Atkeison dies

For more than 40 years, Wilbur Holmes Atkeison, served the City of Demopolis – most notably through his grocery stores.
Yesterday, at the age of 93, he passed away at his home. He operated several grocery stores from 1946-1983 until he sold Food Fair, Inc. and retired.
Graveside funeral services will be held Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Demopolis with Dr. Arthur Luckie officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Mr. Atkeison’s memory to the Demopolis Public Library, 211 East Washington St., Demopolis, AL 36732 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Roemen, Dr. Ronnie Chu and his nurses and staff, Linde McAdams, CRNP, his friends at the Wellness Center, Dr. Anne Lewis, Dr. Charles Gross, Connie Lawson, Jackie Brooker, Bud Boone, Cleveland Cole and Zola Hawkins.
Active pallbearers will be Dent Neilson, Stewart Webb, Brooks Lumpkin, Will Lumpkin, Neilson Renner, Claud Neilson, Claud Neilson III, Sam Renner and Brooks Neilson.
