The Demopolis B-Team boys were within a minute of remaining unbeaten Friday when a late surge by Greenville felled the home team 43-39,
“We just turned it over down the stretch and at crucial times missed free throws,” B-Team coach Patrick Plott said. “We’ve got to work on getting better at that.”
The boys lead 37-32 in the fourth quarter but saw Greenville knot the game at 39 with just under a minute to go.
With 15.3 seconds left on the game clock, a traveling violation gave Demopolis the ball with the game still tied at 39. The Tigers were unable to advance the basketball as Greenville came up with a steal off the inbound pass and pushed it the other way for an easy lay-up to take the lead. A second steal and an easy follow-up bucket just seconds later iced the game for Greenville.
Sophomore Tommy Wilson had 30 of the 39 Demopolis points in the game.
“Tommy always gives us great effort,” Plott said. “He’s been one of our leaders since day one. We try to get the ball in his hands and he makes things happen for us.”
The loss drops the B-Team to 3-1 on the season.
“They’re coming along well,” Plott said of his players. “They come to work hard every day. They play hard. It hurts them to lose.”
