With the dawn of the new year only hours away, many local residents have already filed their New year’s resolutions.

There are hundreds of resolutions made each year, varying from improving one’s quality of life to altering one’s daily habits. However, one of the most popular resolutions involves shedding a few excess pounds.

“We definitely see a spike in enrollment,” Wellness Center Director Betsy Adams said of weight loss resolutions. “January, February and March are our busiest months.”

Adams noted the first three months of the year will bring in some of the highest number of enrollees annually but by spring, the numbers will begin to dwindle.

“People really hit it hard with a lot of gusto at the beginning,” she said, “but by March it starts to slow down some. It’s always been like that.”

Adams said the Wellness Center had enrolled four new members before noon Tuesday and expected a fairly steady flow of memberships in the coming weeks.

“We’ve already got a lot of new people,” she said. “And a lot of our old members come back in and renew. People just put it off until after the holidays and it all comes in around the same time.”
