Marengo County is now under an ice warning through 6 p.m. Monday.
The warning covers much of south central Alabama and means that ice accumulation could start as early as Sunday afternoon.
The wintry precipitation is forecast to start as snow and will quickly transition to sleet and freezing rain, according to the warning.
Total ice accumulations will range from one quarter to half an inch in some places. Tree and power line damage are likely.
Strong winds, ranging from 15 to 20 miles per hour are also expected late Sunday through early Monday.
The amount of ice will make travel dangerous, even impossible, in some places. Travel is strongly discouraged.
