Doris Corley Stanard

Doris Corley Stanard, 92, died at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis Jan. 26, 2011. Born in Nicholsville, Ala. on July 20, 1918 to William Wesley Corley and Lillian Ingram Corley, one of seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Stanard was raised in Sweet Water, Ala. and graduated from Sweet Water High School in 1937.
She graduated from Hillman Nursing School in Birmingham, Ala. and was a Registered Nurse for over forty years in Selma, Ala., Jackson, Miss., Houston, Texas and Jacksonville, Fla. Selected Nurse of the year for her district in 1968, †she participated in the State of Alabama competition for that honor in Birmingham, Ala. that year.
Mrs. Stanard had resided at the Marengo County Nursing Home in Linden since 1999.
Preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Harris P.
Stanard of Mobile; daughter, Dorothy Anne Stanard; son, Wesley Edmund Stanard of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and her grandson, Raymond Harris Stanard of Godfrey, Illinois.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kirk Funeral Homes of Demopolis. The funeral took place at Fair Haven Baptist Church of Demopolis on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 with a graveside ceremony following at the New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma.
Pall Bearers were Jim Dodson, Jim Sieler, Gene Fowler, Ed Randall, Don Glass and Joe Hill.
