Wednesday morning local business and civic leaders took part in Read Across America in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Read Across America is an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. One part of the project is National Read Across America Day, an observance in the United States held on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Taking a piece of their workday to spend with local classroom and daycare children, each of these individuals made an invaluable donation. Getting a child interested in reading early is a key in keeping them interested as they grow. Dr. Seuss was a master of that with his wild stories, colorful artwork and fantastic story lines.Having members of the public, rather than their teacher, come in to read briefly – hopefully – further emphasized the importance of picking up a book and engaging young minds.
