Two Marengo County players make all-state

Reigning Mr. Basketball Trevor Lacey of Butler was selected Class 4A Player of the Year in the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State basketball team released today.
Lacey led the Rebels to the state championship while averaging 31.3 points a game this season. He could become only the second two-time Mr. Basketball in the history of the award that started in 1985. John Carroll’s Ronald Steele earned Mr. Basketball in 2003 and 2004.
This year’s Mr. and Miss Basketball will be selected from among the players of the year and announced at an April 6 banquet.
In addition to Class 4A Butler’s Lacey, other boys players of the year are Class 6A Bob Jones’ Levi Randolph, Class 5A Pleasant Grove’s Ricky Tarrant, Class 3A Sumter County’s Kevin May, Class 2A Tanner’s Matthew Hines, Class 1A Pickens County’s Deion Curry and AISA Pickens Academy’s Jacob Acker.
Girls players of the year are Class 6A Bob Jones’ Jasmine Jones, Class 5A Carroll’s Tia Faleru, Class 4A Brewbaker Tech’s Marques Webb, Class 3A West Morgan’s Hayden Hamby, Class 2A Tanner’s Sierra Sales, Class 1A R.A. Hubbard’s Alex Gholston and AISA Lakeside’s Merritt Waddell.
