Demopolis High School was placed on lockdown between third and fourth period Friday as a number of students were involved in a physical altercation.

“We did have an altercation on campus,” Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin said of the incident that took place on the final day before DCS began its Spring Break holiday.

Some reports had the incident involving as many at 10 students. However, Griffin and other administrators were unable to confirm the number of individuals involved.

“We were able to identify the primary aggressors based on the initial investigation,” Griffin said. “Once the aggressors were turned over to their parents, we resumed a normal day.”

The Demopolis Police Department responded to the scene but no arrests had been made as of Friday morning.

“Not yet,” Griffin said when asked if any students had been taken into custody. “The Demopolis Police Department is conducting its own investigation.”

Griffin said no serious injuries were sustained but one student did seek medical attention.

“We did have one (student) that was taken to the hospital by his mother,” Griffin said.

The students identified as the aggressors were removed from school before the lockdown was lifted.

“We have applied the school code of conduct,” Griffin said. “(The students identified as the aggressors) are suspended pending a board investigation.”
