Billy Jake Smith, 77, of Demopolis died April 16 at his home.

He was born Oct. 23, 1933 in Millport to the late Hill D. and Pearl Odom Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Mills Smith, of Demopolis; daughter, Debra Smith Taylor, of Northport; son, Byron (Sonja) Smith, of West Blocton; sister, Shirlie S. (David) Ellis, of Edmond, Okla.; brother, Thomas D. (Judy) Smith, of Northport and grandchild, Leanna T. (Ross) Harris.

Funeral services were held April 18 at Kirk Funeral Home in Demopolis. Burial followed at Oakhill Cemetery in Moundville.

Carl Jenkins officiated with Kirk Funeral Home directing.

Active pallbearers were Ross Harris, Bennie Lyles, John Harris, David Stephens, Don Huckabee and Randy Ray.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill’s church family at Canal Heights Church of Christ, Southern Care Hospice, Glendora Anderson, Tara Sealy, Sheila Adams, Peggy Averette and his faithful sitters Martha Lyles and James Milam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canal Heights Church Mission Fund.
