The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce and the Two Rivers Arts Council will bring music and crawfish to the riverbanks next week as they showcase Rockin’ on the River May 19.
The free event will feature local musician Ace Jones.
“The main purpose of the event is to highlight the river,” Chamber Director Jenn Tate said. “Just to bring people down to water and enjoy it.”
The Rockin’ on the River series will follow a similar format to Sax in the City, which is held in the downtown park. However, Jones’ blues music stylings brings a different tone than the smooth jazz typical of Sax in the City events.
“It will be fun to have a little rockin’ and blues music down on the water,” Tate said.
There is no admission fee to enjoy the music. Crawfish plates are $10 each. Tate asked that interested parties purchase tickets for the crawfish plates in advance so organizers could get an idea of how many to prepare for. The day of the event, crawfish – which will be prepared by John Broussard, of Faunsdale – will be sold until they run out.
“We’re hoping for about 150 right now,” she said adding that approximately 60 tickets had already been sold.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, coolers and drinks.
The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the city landing. Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce by calling 289-0270.
