TROY — Demopolis (39-10) had its season end with a 6-5 loss to Shelby County Saturday evening after the Lady Wildcats mounted an eighth-inning rally for the win.

Kaitlyn Paschall walked in the top of the eighth inning before coming around to score on an error that gave SCHS the lead. Demopolis’ two-out rally in the home half of the inning fell short despite a pair of singles from Alex Crawford and Alexis Jones.

Shelby County scored four runs over the last three innings of the game to erase a 5-2 deficit and knock Demopolis from the Class 5A South Central double-elimination tournament.

Heather Maness singled to start the seventh inning before scoring on an error to tie the game 5-5. Shelby County loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth inning before a sacrifice fly by Jessica Carden plated Brianna Buie to cut the Demopolis lead to 5-3. Shelby added another score when Jaselyn Harrison score on an error.

The Lady Tigers scored all of their runs in the fourth inning, a rally that started when Raylee Eubanks reached on an error before giving way to pinch runner Meredith Mackin. Two batters later, Zoe Lewis drew a walk before turning base running duties over to Olivia Brame. Sydney Colyar followed with a suicide squeeze to plate Mackin from third to cut the Shelby advantage to 2-1. Brame then scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Crawford followed with an RBI double to score Colyar and give Demopolis a 3-2 lead. Crawford and Kristin Beach added two more runs on errant pitches to give Demopolis its biggest offensive inning of the tournament.

Demopolis left runners on base in the first, third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings of the loss. The Lady Tigers exit the tournament after a 2-2 weekend that saw them score a total of 10 runs.
