Ann Fitts Searcy Yoder

Ann Fitts Searcy Yoder died Monday at Hospice of West Alabama after a lengthy illness. A memorial service for Mrs. Yoder will be heald at Christ Episcopal Church Wednesday at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the church with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was predeceased by husband, Robert L. Yoder, executive vice president of Gulf State Paper Corp., and her parents, Dr. Harvey Brown Searcy and Mary Emily Fitts Searcy.

Born in 1916 in Tuscaloosa, she graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, attended Sweetbriar College and graduated from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Mortar Board, academic honor society, and Kappa Delta sorority.

She lived all her life in Tuscaloosa except for 20 years (1960-1980) in Demopolis, serving as a volunteer in church and community activities in both cities.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Dr. Robert L. (Beth) Yoder Jr. of Birmingham, Harvey H. (Jean) Yoder of Tuscaloosa and James W. (Alicia) Yoder of Montgomery, a sister, Emily Rogers, her grandchildren, Robert L. (Dena) Yoder III, John H. (Gina) Yoder, Harvey Harold (Colleen) Yoder Jr., Allison (Pete) Henderson, Anne Harmon Yoder and Lee Searcy Yoder as well as six great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her devoted caregivers, Lavida Hendrix, Kim Leo, Fay McDaniel, Cherry Roby, Glenda Sansing, Alma Tutwiler and Alex Wright.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Christ Episcopal Church, 605 Lurleen Wallace Blvd., 35401, or Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, 35404.
