What do you feel is the most important thing a congregation can do to help its preacher?
Assisting him in carrying out the great commission of winning souls for Christ.
When and where was your first sermon and what was the topic?
March 1983, St. Paul Baptist Church, Demopolis, Al, “Here Am I, Send Me”
Aside from your faith, what do you get excited about? What are some of your personal interests or passions?
Reading, helping others, Gardening, and teaching.
You balance being an elementary school principal with being a preacher. What are some of the challenges that come with that schedule?
Not enough time in the day.
Who has been most influential on your personal faith?
Dr. Thomas Gilmore, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Ensley, Alabama
What trends have you noticed regarding young people and the way they approach their faith? Are they taking it more seriously than years ago? Less seriously?
It appears to me that more young people are more involved in their faith than years ago because of the access to greater resources to spread the gospel.
What advice would you give to the Christian trying to balance a faithful personal walk with life in the secular world?
Have an effective prayer life and become a student of God’s word. This will enable one to survive in these changing times.
What is life like for you outside of ministry? Family? Hobbies?
Family time is very important to me. Every Friday night is “Family Night” and we spend time doing things that we all enjoy. My hobbies are gardening, basketball and writing.
