Charlie Howard Pope, 85, of Dixon’s Mill died Friday, June 17 at Anderson’s Hospital in Meridian, Miss.

He was a lifelong resident of the Wesley Chapel community where he enjoyed his life as a farmer and a cattleman. He served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, T.E. and Ether M. Pope and his brother, Leonard Pope. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Margaret Hasty Pope, sisters Olna Wright of Tuscaloosa, Dot Siniard and Gwen Ayers of Lewisville, Texas; brother T.J. Pope of Dixon’s Mill; daughters Carole (Bill) Simpkins and Vicki (Clemit) Spruiell of Livingston, Pam (Ed) Prince of Tampa, Fla.; his sons Mickey (Karen) Pope of Dixon’s Mill and Paul (Ann) Pope of Auburn, grandchildren Margo (Tommy) Bryan of Livingston; Jen (Bob) Tremayne of Phoenix, Ariz.; Ashby (Brittney) Spruiell of Rowlett, Texas Pope (Amanda) Spruiell, Will Pope and Daniel Pope all of Tuscaloosa; Andrew Prince of Tampa, Fla.’ Chasity (Jason) Broadhead of Linden; Megan (Bo) Pierce and Ryan Pope of Decatur; and Wesley Ann (Steve) Terry of Pine Apple; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery . Rev. Daniel Gandy and Rev. Harry Giles officiating.

Pallbearers were his grandsons: Ashby Spruiell, Pope Spruiell, Will Pope, Daniel Pope, Andrew Prince and Ryan Pope.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery fund at 6530 Co. Rd. 55, Magnolia, AL 36754.
