Patrons of the Demopolis Farmer’s Market may notice something drastically different next week: Its location.

Thanks to a budding partnership between the farmers, the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce and Tractor Supply, the roadside stands long familiar on Highway 80 East near Regions Bank will be moved to Highway 80 West at Tractor Supply beginning Friday.

“We’re just trying something a little different hoping to improve traffic flow,” Chamber director Jenn Tate said.

Each spring and summer, the areas local farmers flock to the lot beside Regions to peddle their homegrown wares, but as the number of farmers have grown too has the crowd.

The influx of cars, parking and traffic funneled into the highway prompted consideration of moving the men and their trucks.

“The rules are still the same,” Tate said of the farmers who use the site. “Everything you sell must be homemade or home-grown; breads, jellies candies, fruits…you can’t bring anything that you’ve bought to resell it.”

Tate also said the farmer’s will continue to accept Seniors Coupons.
