Former governor Riley injured in accident

House Speaker Mike Hubbard today expressed relief that former Governor Bob Riley will make a full recovery after being injured in an accident while riding his motorcycle in Alaska.

The former governor is currently being treated in a Fairbanks, Alaska hospital after sustaining several broken bones and a punctured lung in an accident Sunday afternoon. Governor Riley was wearing a helmet, and doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

The accident occurred while former Governor Riley was traveling on a dirt and gravel road. As it began to rain, he hit a slick spot and had to lay the motorcycle down to avoid losing control.

“I was relieved to hear that my friend, former Governor Riley will make a full recovery,” Speaker Hubbard said. “Throughout his trip, he has been relaying to me some wonderful experiences of seeing different parts of our country, enjoying the beautiful landscape and visiting with all the cowboys, truck drivers, mechanics, waitresses he’s encountered on the road . I am disappointed he won’t be able to complete his trip as planned, I am thankful that he will be okay.”
